I grew up in Boy Scouts where I spent a lot of time at the RRASC helping in the food bank and to take donations. My time here impacted me enough that I decided to do my Eagle Scout project here. I renovated the area around the playscape at the RRASC so that it looked nicer and was safer for the kids of these families in need to play on.
I spent months organizing the materials, the volunteers to help, and getting the project approved by the serving center and the city. Overall I put over 100 man hours into setting this project up and completing it.
Every year since 2014 when I was first scuba certified I have been one of over a thousand divers who every year take to the waters of Lake Travis in Austin, Texas to remove trash from the bottom of the lake. Lake Travis is the busiest lake in Austin where many find themselves partying and drinking and throwing their beer cans, expensive sunglasses, drones, and other object which should not be in the water into the lake. On average the Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup pulls 5 tons of trash from the bottom of the lake every year. This figure does not include trash that is pulled up by divers throughout the rest of the year.
